Bible reading plan 2019-2020

I have not yet found a Bible reading plan that satisfies all my desires, many of them are good but don’t fit my lifestyle. So a few years ago I came up with one based on a few different plans I found that I liked elements of. The last one I put together was for 2017, and once I completed it I felt like I had missed so many things and was fatigued. So in 2018 I did not do a plan, and that ended up as a disaster because as a believer, all of the elements of God’s Word are meant for my benefit, whereas I mostly stayed in only a few books.

This time I wanted to embark on a 2 year reading plan that would both keep me grounded and in the Scripture regularly, but allowed for meditation as well as for my busy life. What I came up with is this:

  • This plan spans 2 years. It’s meant for 1 morning reading and 1 evening reading. The reader will cover the Old Covenant once (chronologically) and the New Covenant twice.

  • The plan will cover the Life of Jesus 8 times – each of the Gospels twice. But will be separated by other readings in the NT (so you don’t get finished reading Matthew and move right into Luke)

  • It is a 5 day a week plan – Monday-Friday – this allows flexibility if I fall behind and my weekends to focus on other readings like biographies or church.

  • The Plan is split into readings from the Old Covenant and New Covenant (every day to get both old and new)

  • Never more than 1 Chapter per day of the New Covenant, and slows to 1 Chapter a day in the Old Covenant during very important events. (Creation, fall of Man, Call of Abraham, Some of the Parts of the Exodus)

  • The Old Testament readings are Chronological for the entire 2 year span– so for example as we follow the life of David we will also read the Psalms as he penned them. Also, the events of Genesis will take pause after Chapter 11 to make time to study the events of the life of Job (which events occurred between Ch 11 and 12)

  • Suggested study resources are also available to the right of the plan. An overview of the book by Bible Project and an overview of the chapter from the Leadership of CFBC (Website: cfbcstl.org)

  • Year 1 will specifically focus in with available study resources for the Old Testament and the second-year study resources will hone in on the New Covenant.
